Co-designing robots with children
How do children envision a homework robot?
The robot we develop in the CHATTERS project needs to suit childrens' needs and preferences when it comes to physical design, social role, personality traits, conversational style, and approach to online information credibility. In February 2022 we organised a workshop in which children worked in groups (18 groups of 3-4 children) on these challenges as designers. They used a worksheet we made to think about the robot designs, make a design, and show off some of it's functionality in a storyboard. Below you can see the designs that were made. Below you can also see an excerpt from the storyboards where the robot offers a sad child a hug. In a workshop publication we analyse the worksheets with a focus on potential COVID-19 related outcomes; how did children see their homework robot during the pandemic?
